1. Allow the leather and any mud or moisture to dry completely before brushing.
2. Test the brush gently on an inconspicuous area, particularly when working with fine nubuck or lightly coloured suede.
3. Remove loose surface dust with a soft brush when necessary.
4. Brush the suede gently using short, controlled strokes.
5. Concentrate carefully on dirty or flattened areas without repeatedly brushing the same spot.
6. Change the brushing direction lightly when necessary to lift and separate the fibres.
7. After cleaning, finish with gentle strokes in one direction to leave the pile looking even.
8. Remove loosened debris from the bristles after use and store the brush in a dry place.

A brass brush is more assertive than an everyday horsehair brush, so pressure and repetition matter. Begin with a light touch and allow the bristles to do the work. Aggressive brushing or repeatedly working the same area can wear or burn the delicate surface, especially on fine nubuck.

For dried mud or heavier surface deposits, remove the bulk of the debris first before using the brass brush to refine the texture. When using a liquid suede cleaner, allow the leather to dry completely before brushing the fibres back into place.

Keep this brush exclusively for suede and nubuck. Do not use it on smooth, polished or patent leather, as the brass bristles will mark the surface.
