Place the shoe horn against the inside of the heel counter before inserting your foot. Allow your heel to slide smoothly along the horn and into the shoe, then gently remove the shoe horn once the foot is comfortably seated.

A shoe horn is one of the simplest ways to preserve a well-made pair of shoes. Repeatedly forcing the heel into a shoe can gradually distort and weaken the heel counter, particularly when the laces haven't been sufficiently loosened.

I always recommend opening the shoe properly first and allowing the shoe horn to guide the heel into place rather than using it to force your foot into a shoe that is still too tight.
