1. Remove loose dust and surface dirt from the leather before cleaning.
2. Immerse a clean sponge or a mud remover brush in lukewarm water, then squeeze out the excess so that the sponge is damp rather than dripping wet.
3. Rub the damp sponge directly over the hard Etalon Noir Saddle Soap to pick up the product and create a light lather.
4. Apply the lather to the leather and scrub the surface to loosen accumulated dirt and grime.
5. Rinse the sponge thoroughly in clean water and begin removing the soap and loosened dirt from the leather.
6. Continue rinsing the sponge and wiping the leather repeatedly until all traces of soap and foam have been removed.
7. Allow the leather to dry completely before applying any subsequent care products. Overnight drying is ideal, in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.

Always test on an inconspicuous area before full application.

With saddle soap, rinsing is just as important as cleaning. Once the dirt has been loosened, take your time with a clean, rinsed sponge and continue working until there is no foam or soap residue left on the leather. Don't rush this part.

I also prefer leaving freshly cleaned leather overnight before conditioning it. Deep cleaning introduces moisture into the leather, and allowing it to dry naturally gives you a much better understanding of its condition before deciding how much nourishment it needs. Avoid sunlight, radiators, hair dryers, or other sources of direct heat—time is considerably kinder to leather.
