1. Ensure the edge or heel is clean and dry before application.
2. Before first use, press the pen tip down repeatedly against a sheet of paper or napkin until the product begins to flow through the applicator.
3. Apply a thin, even layer along the sole or heel edge using controlled strokes.
4. Keep a clean chamois nearby to immediately remove any excess, particularly during the first applications when product flow may be heavier.
5. Allow the treatment to dry for approximately 10 minutes.
6. Once dry, the restored edge can be polished to develop a more refined finish.

The secret to beautifully restored edges is precision, not quantity. During the first use especially, prime the pen over paper rather than directly over your shoe. Once the product begins flowing, you'll have much better control over how much reaches the leather.

I also prefer several controlled strokes over trying to completely recolour a worn edge in one heavy pass. Keep your chamois in your other hand as you work so that any product that reaches the upper can be addressed immediately. Once everything has dried, you can refine the edge further with an appropriate polish if the finish you're after calls for it.
