1. Adjust the width of the forepart as required to suit the shape and fit of your footwear.
2. Carefully insert the toe section of the shoe tree into the shoe.
3. Gently compress the spring mechanism and position the heel section securely inside the heel.
4. Check that the shoe tree supports the footwear naturally without placing excessive pressure on the leather.
5. Leave the shoe trees inside your footwear between wears to help maintain shape and absorb residual moisture.

If there is one habit I encourage with quality footwear, it is using shoe trees consistently. I like to insert them shortly after taking my shoes off, while the leather is still warm and has absorbed moisture from the day's wear. This is when supporting the leather as it rests is particularly valuable.

Take advantage of the adjustable forepart, but don't overtighten it. A shoe tree should support the natural shape of your shoe rather than stretch it. The ability to adjust the width and accommodate roughly half a size in either direction is there to help you achieve a more precise fit—not to force the leather into a different shape.
