1. Ensure that any shoe cream or wax polish has been applied evenly and allowed to dry according to its instructions.
2. Remove any loose residue with a clean horsehair polishing brush when necessary.
3. Slide your hand securely beneath the leather strap.
4. Place the natural-wool surface against the leather.
5. Buff using brisk, controlled movements with light to moderate pressure.
6. Work across the toe, vamp, quarters and heel until the finish becomes even.
7. Reduce the pressure during the final passes to refine the shine.
8. Shake or gently brush the wool surface after use to remove loose polish residue.

Store the pad in a clean, dry place away from direct heat and moisture.

A horsehair brush and a woollen shining pad perform complementary roles. Use the brush first to distribute and remove excess polish, then finish with the wool pad to refine the surface and bring out a softer, more lustrous shine.

Do not apply wet cream or wax directly with the pad. Its purpose is final buffing after the product has dried. Loading the wool with fresh polish can cause the fibres to become matted and may leave streaks across the leather.

I recommend reserving separate polishing tools for light and dark colour families. Residual black or dark-brown pigment trapped within the wool may transfer onto lighter leather during a later polishing session.

Keep the natural wool dry and remove accumulated residue regularly. Do not use the pad on suede or nubuck, as friction may flatten the pile and any retained polish could permanently mark the material.
