Use dry, dampened with water, or together with the appropriate Saphir cleaner depending on the material and level of soiling.

For heavier dirt or mud, remove loose debris first. Dampen the cloth as required and work over the surface, regularly rinsing the cloth with clean water so that loosened dirt is carried away rather than redistributed.

When using a cleaning product, follow the instructions for that specific cleaner and material.

After use, wash the cloths thoroughly and allow them to dry completely before storing.

This is the sort of cloth I reach for when the job has moved beyond ordinary polishing. If a shoe has encountered mud, road dirt or more substantial grime, I want a cloth that I can wet, rinse, wring out and continue working with.

With three cloths, I would keep one for the initial dirty work, another for rinsing with clean water, and the third clean for the final wipe. It is a simple habit, but it prevents you from continually putting removed dirt back onto the surface.
