• Ecological anionic surfactants — These are the cleaning agents responsible for helping lift and remove dirt and unwanted residues from the material. Saphir specifically identifies the cleaning agents in Foam Cleaner as ecological anionic surfactants.

1. Brush the item thoroughly to remove loose dust and surface dirt.
2. Shake the Foam Cleaner vigorously.
3. Apply the foam across the entire area being cleaned.
4. Allow it to work for approximately 2 minutes.
5. Brush the material again to remove the foam and absorbed dirt.
6. Clean the brush as you work so that removed dirt is not transferred back onto the material.
7. Repeat where necessary on more heavily soiled areas.
Allow the item to dry completely for approximately 12 hours.

Always test first on a discreet area. Saphir specifically recommends using a clean Medium Horsehair Brush during application.

Foam Cleaner is one of those products I particularly appreciate for contemporary footwear because you are rarely dealing with just one material. A single sneaker can combine leather, suede, textile, microfibre, and crepe, and having one cleaner designed to work across those different surfaces makes the process considerably more straightforward.

Keep your brush clean as you work. Once the foam has lifted dirt from the surface, continuing with a dirty brush can simply redistribute that soil. For particularly stubborn contamination, I would rather repeat the cleaning process carefully than become unnecessarily aggressive with the material.

Allow the footwear to dry fully before judging the final result or moving on to protection.
