1. Ensure the material is completely dry.
2. Brush away loose dust and surface dirt.
3. Test the Gommadin on an inconspicuous area.
4. Rub the affected area gently using short, controlled movements.
5. Allow the block to crumble naturally as it lifts the mark.
6. Remove the resulting particles with a suitable suede or nubuck brush.
7. Repeat only where necessary, slightly increasing pressure for more persistent marks.
8. Finish with Colour Reviver Suede & Nubuck Spray or Super Invulner Protector Spray when additional conditioning or protection is required.

Avoid aggressive rubbing and do not use on smooth leather.

I use the edge or corner of the Gommadin first rather than placing the entire face of the block against the leather. This gives much better control over a localized mark and avoids unnecessarily treating the surrounding area. Once the stain begins to lift, I soften the transition with a few lighter passes around its edges.

Suede can burn when too much pressure or friction is applied. This concerns brush as well as Gommadin usage. Always use light pressure, keep your movements controlled and avoid rubbing the same spot for too long. A friction burn may not be immediately obvious, but it can permanently shorten the nap and leave a shiny mark or patch that is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to repair. We definitely want to avoid this.

Do not be concerned when the block starts to crumble—this is part of its cleaning action. The loose rubber carries dirt away from the fibres instead of redistributing it across the surface. Brush away every particle before judging the result, as the nap often looks uneven until it has been properly lifted and reset.
