The Cordovan leather received that name because it is made of horse's skin from Cordova and crossed with wild horse's skin from Dakota. It has used just from 1220 in3 (20dm3) to 1342 in3 (22dm3) of horse's back to make shoes. The rest is used for furnishing.

The treatment process of one piece of this leather could take until five months, because of a vegetable tanning process.

This kind of leather uses to be reddish-brown or black and use to have a special shine. Horse's skin is characterized by its elasticity and flexibility, values that are transmitted to shoes that are making of this leather.
